Spring 2020 - Spring 2021
OVERVIEW
Engaging Big Tech employees
In spite of their vast political influence, Amazon, Apple, Alphabet (Google), Facebook* and Microsoft only devoted 4% of their lobbying resources to climate as of January 2021, according to the research group InfluenceMap.
In March 2020, ClimateVoice launched the 1in5 Campaign, rallying Big Tech employees behind the goal of getting these companies to devote 1in5 of their lobbying dollars to climate — to keep global warming below the science-based target of 1.5°C.
The campaign launched with a media blitz just months before the introduction of major climate legislation (initially titled the Build Back Better Act) — leading to our expanded GoTime campaign.
*This campaign launched prior to Facebook changing its corporate name to Meta.
What We Did
Shining the spotlight on lobbying
With an engaging superhero-themed video calling on Tech employees to “be climate heroes,” social media outreach, and organizing, ClimateVoice spearheaded the 1in5 Campaign to galvanize corporate policy action. In response, hundreds of employees signed a petition to Big Tech urging their companies to step up their climate lobbying, attending meetings, and bringing this issue to the forefront.
